Verneta O'Brien

Verneta "Vern" Alice O'Brien, age 85, of Lamar, passed away Sunday evening, July 28, 2013, at her home. Vern was born October 28, 1927 at La Crosse, WI to Antone and Edna Johnson.  On April 10, 1954 she married William "Bill" Robert O'Brien Sr. at Hiawatha, KS.  She was a member of Bethel Foursquare Church in St. Joseph, MO.  She had worked at Mead-Western Tablet in St. Joseph, MO and was a homemaker.  Vern loved to collect Owls and was a member of the Lamar Eagles Auxiliary. Vern is survived by her husband Bill of the home; two sons, Bill Jr. and wife Karen of Lamar and Charles Mattox of Lamar; two sisters, Darlene & Butch Gaeode of Omaha, NE, and Dora Mae of Omaha, NE; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, and three daughters Vernelle Kay McPheater, Linda Gayle Bundy, and Jeannine Lois Workman; and one brother Donnie Johnson. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at Daniel Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at Daniel Funeral Home. Contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society in care of the funeral home.
