Ida Vera Mitts, age 82, of Lamar, passed
away Sunday, November 16, 2008,
at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.
Vera was born September 14, 1926, in Gross, Kansas,
to George and Grace (Lanning) Burdick.
After moving with her family to Missouri,
she graduated from Minden High
School and worked at the poultry plant and
Alexander’s Department Store in Lamar.
On July 12, 1957, at
Miami, Oklahoma,
Vera married Willie F. Mitts and they made their home in Nevada
for many years where they owned and operated Mitts Cab Company. They were living in Carthage
when Willie passed away October 29,
1994 and Vera moved to Lamar in 1998. She was a member of Trinity
Baptist Church
in Lamar.
Survivors include two daughters and a
son-in-law, Bonnie Hobson and Georgia & George Carr, all of Lamar; a
step-son, Steve and wife Elaine Mitts, Milo, Missouri; a sister, Jane Hughes,
Carthage, Missouri; five grandchildren, Gena Miller, Tim Mitts, Susan Matheis,
Tonya Dickerson and Steve Mitts, Jr.; numerous great-grandchildren; many
nephews and nieces; and a large extended family.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband,
Willie; a son-in-law, Kenneth Hobson; and two grandsons, SSgt Kenneth Hobson II
and Ronnie Vert; a brother, Phillip Burdick; and two sisters, Angie Wirts and
Mary Reisinger.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 19th
at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00
p.m. Tuesday. Burial will be
in Memory Gardens
