Velma Bohne

Velma Amalia Bohne, age 98, of Springfield, formerly of Lamar, passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Cox South Hospital.      Velma was born June 29, 1915 at Healy, Kansas to Fred and Emma Sitz.  On September 25, 1937, at Lockwood, Missouri, she married Martin Christopher Bohne.  In addition to being a devoted farm wife, homemaker, mother and grandmother, Velma had worked many years as a cook at the Lockwood school.  Her grandchildren will readily attest that she was an “awesome” cook who delighted in sharing legendary carrot cakes and cinnamon rolls with family and friends.  After moving to Lamar in 1970, Velma worked as a housekeeper for several years.  She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.   In 2001, she moved to Springfield to be near family.      After celebrating more than 55 years together, Martin passed away December 27, 1992.  Velma was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and two sisters, Onida and Adelia.      Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Jan Bohne, Tulsa, Oklahoma; a daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Jewell Dearing, Springfield, Missouri; four grandchildren, DeAnna Gippner, Tim Dearing, Jason Stinchomb and John Stinchomb; five great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Cook and a niece, Norma Whitaker, both of Kansas City, Missouri.      The family will receive friends from noon until 12:45 p.m. Saturday at Daniel Funeral Home.  A graveside funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Memory Gardens Cemetery with Rev. Galen Friedrichs officiating.      Memorial contributions are suggested to Grace Lutheran Church, Alzheimer Association, or American Heart Association, in care of the funeral home.
