On January 19, 2024, Velma May Berryhill met the love of her life and her Lord and Savior at the gates of heaven.
Velma was born October 27, 1926 in Jasper, Missouri to Francis (Jim) Smith and Buelah May (Wood) Smith. She married Loyal Berryhill on February 26, 1949 and the two celebrated nearly 68 years of marriage. Working alongside her husband on a farm in rural Jasper, they raised three children, Elene Fitchpatrick, Ann Powell and Carl Berryhill.
Velma's loves were her family, her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She loved gardening, and quilting and has made numerous quilts that will forever be cherished by the children and grandchildren. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Jasper and served several years as part of the kitchen committee.
Velma was looked at by many as an inspirational woman. Her strength was looked at as encouraging and her will to serve the Lord and others, will always be remembered. Her faith, drive, and willingness will be missed by many.
Survivors include one daughter, Elene Fitchpatrick of Jasper; one son Carl and his wife Debra Berryhill of Jasper; five grandchildren, Jeff Fitchpatrick, Kelly Faubion, Devin Berryhill, Corin "Boomer" Berryhill and Logan Powell; seven great-grandchildren, Morgan Faubion, Brett Faubion, Addi Berryhill, Mason Berryhill, Alyssa Powell, Clayton Powell and Brady Powell; four great-great grandchildren, Liliann Faubion, Jasper Faubion, Emery Faubion and Benjamin Faubion; one brother, Robert and his wife Lu Smith of Hemitt, California and one son-in-law, Walter Powell.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Loyal; a daughter, Ann Powell; a son-in-law, Ben Fitchpatrick; two sisters, Nadine Mevius and Marie Etcheson; and one brother, Richard Smith.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a,n,m., Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at the First Baptist Church of Jasper with burial to follow at Waters Cemetery, also in Jasper, MO.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 23, 2024 prior to the service at the church.
Contributions are suggested and made payable to either the First Baptist Church of Jasper or to Waters Cemetery in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
