Sheila Joanne (Jo) Rhuems

Sheila Joanne “Jo” Rhuems, age 73, of Carl Junction, Missouri, passed away on April 12, 2025, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Sheila was born on November 3, 1951, in Sacramento, California, to James Drennin Griffin and Imogene Ellen Raper-Hukill. After the passing of her father when she was just a baby, her mother later married J.W. Hukill, who lovingly raised Sheila as his own.

A devoted mother and homemaker, Sheila dedicated her life to raising her children and caring for her family with unwavering love and strength.

She is survived by her nine children: Kerry Short, Travis Short, Timmy Short, Nick Short, Shannon Rhuems, Teddy Rhuems, Trevor Short, Robin Short, and Brandi Rhuems;her ex-husband, Richard D. Rhuems, whom she loved deeply; as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy. Sheila also leaves behind her sisters, Sharon Richardson and Marveline Sprinkle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her Dad, J.W. Hukill; one son, Kenneth Short Jr., and one daughter, Christy Short.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2025, at Mindenmines Church of God in Mindenmines, Missouri with Troy Roland officiating the service.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to be made payable to the Bill and Virginia Leffen Center for Autism, in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
