Selma Jean Clawson

Selma Jean Clawson, age 86, of Lamar, MO passed at her son’s home in Walnut Grove, MO Thursday June 27, 2013 after a battle with cancer. Selma was born July 9, 1926 at Bolivar, MO to Charles Abner Wilkins and Grace Elizabeth (Brines) Wilkins.  She graduated Golden City High School in 1945 and on April 12, 1947 she married James Loren Clawson.  Selma worked for 25 years as a cook for Truman Manor (Truman Healthcare Center) and then was a caretaker for Betty Thiebaud for 10 years.  She was a past member of Women’s Aglow and traveled extensively with that organization.  Selma also loved to fish.  Survivors include four sons, Howard & Marilyn Clawson of Lamar, MO, Kenneth & Paula Clawson of Jericho Spring, MO, Leland & Linda Clawson of Spokane, WA, and Roger & Christa Clawson of Walnut Grove, MO; one sister, Maxine LeGrand, of Lamar, MO; ten grandchildren, Angela Morgan, Keith Clawson, Brian Clawson, Scott Clawson, Amy McMillin, Benjamin Clawson, Daniel Clawson, Christopher Clawson, Sarah Conner, Katie Clawson; and eight great-grandchildren Jade, Lauren, Madison, Devon, Drew, Gatlyn, Gracyn,  and Sawyer Selma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James on December 4, 1983, an infant daughter, Margretta Jean Clawson in 1948, and two brothers, Charles and Carl Wilkins. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Sunday, June 30, 2013 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Newport Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 7 pm Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Daniel Funeral Home. Contributions are suggested to American Cancer Society in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
