Robert August Holl, age 63, of Lamar, passed away Sunday evening, September 3, 2017, surrounded by his family at his home.      Bob was born May 8, 1954, in Oregon.  In 1972, immediately after graduating from high school in Tacoma, Washington, he began a 17-year career in the U.S. Navy.  He served more than a year as a Machinist Mate in Vietnam where he obtained, maintained, and repaired ship propulsion machinery, auxiliary equipment, and outside machinery.      On April 16, 1977, at Brook Park, Minnesota, Robert married the love of his life, Jane Osterdyk, and they lived at various Naval bases before settling in Barton County in 1987.  They had shared 22 years together before Jane passed away due to an automobile accident August 22, 2009.  He was also preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Frances Holl; a granddaughter, Cheyenne McCuistion; and a sister, Marilyn Harrison.      Survivors include three daughters, Samantha Garfield (Jim Schultz), Tabatha (Jesse) McCuistion, and Roberta Jane (Nathan) Blaser, all of Lamar; ten grandchildren, Michael Garfield, (Brittany Garfield), Chris Alves, Kaylee (Corey) Timmons, Justin (Jessie) Alves, Ben (Da’Lacey) Garfield, Katlyn Alves (Nathan Herring), Aspen McCuistion, Sierra McCuistion, Eric McGee, and Kerah Holl; several great-grandchildren; a sister, Elizabeth Holl, Olympia, Washington; a nephew, Jed (Sonya) Harrison, Roscoe, IL; a niece, Becky (Troy) Harrison - Flatness, Dodge Center, MN; a niece Sarah Harrison, Olympia, Washington; and a large extended family.      After retiring from military service, Bob worked in the maintenance department at Thorco for many years.  Instilled with a great work ethic, he usually held more than one job at a time, working as a janitor at SummerFresh Grocery, a delivery driver for Pizza Hut, and a cook at KFC-Taco Bell and Denny’s of Lamar over the years.  While his health permitted, Robert enjoyed bowling, golf, hunting, and fishing.  He was a gifted singer who loved all kinds of music and maintained a positive attitude throughout the many challenges he faced and overcame.  His zest for game nights, puzzles, and cards with family and friends made lasting and loving memories for everyone involved.      A memorial service including full military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 23rd at Milford Christian Church.  A private committal of ashes service will be held at a later date.      Memorial contributions are suggested to the Holl family in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
