Raymond John Griggs

Raymond John Griggs, age 78, of Golden City, Missouri passed away October 31, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
 
Raymond was born April 9, 1945 in Kansas City, Missouri to Raymond Hugh Griggs and Lillian C. (McKibben) Griggs. Raymond graduated from Paseo High School in the class of 1963. On April 18, 1998, Raymond married Jenelle "Colene" Smith in Kansas City, Missouri.
 
Raymond retired as a commercial printer at Pro Print in Kansas City, Missouri. Upon his retirement in 2005, Raymond and Colene moved to Golden City, Missouri. In retirement, Raymond and Colene would set up booths at local festivals. Raymond would make handmade jewelry, and wood ornaments for the yard.  Raymond was well known for a turtle yard ornament that he created out of spoons, forks, and knives. He was referred to as the "Turtle Man."

Raymond loved the outdoors, you could often find him in his garden harvesting or the nearest river bank fishing. He loved baseball. He enjoyed watching the Kansas City Royals, and his granddaughters softball team.

Survivors include his wife, Colene; four daughters, Catherine Denise (Rick) Jurgensen, Cynthia Vista Griggs (Gregory Tindle) Helen Burec-Brown, and Tammy Cox; two sons, Michael Burec and Tracey Burec; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, two sisters, Mary Lou Ames and Carol Roberts.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Dorothy Rae Graham; and two brothers-in-law, Richard Ames and Walter Roberts.
 
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., November 6, 2023, at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Golden City, MO.

The family will receive friends starting at 1:00 p.m., November 6, 2023 until service time at the funeral home.
