Randy VanGilder

Randy Lee VanGilder, age 58, of Lamar, passed away Tuesday evening, April 24, 2018, surrounded by family at his home.      Randy was born November 4, 1959, in Lamar, first of the two sons of Carl and Patsy (Davis) VanGilder.  He graduated from Lamar High School in 1977 and became a master plumber, working for King Plumbing in Joplin for six years.  In 1994, Randy earned LPN certification from Franklin Tech in Joplin. As a health care provider, he provided excellent service to others in nursing homes and home healthcare for many years.    A life-long learner and avid reader, Randy educated himself on any topic that piqued his curiosity or applied to his wide variety of interests.  His love of the outdoors was nurtured by summers growing up in the hayfield and later caring for his cattle herd.  Randy was a “people person” who thrived on time spent with family and friends and enjoyed the companionship of his dogs.      On June 9, 1989, Randy married Teresa (Hern) Jeffries VanGilder and she survives.  Also surviving are his mother, Patsy VanGilder; his brother, Rick VanGilder; three sons, Tristan Jeffries, Nicholas (Amanda) Jeffries, Caton (Harmony) Jeffries; three daughters, Jenica (Jim) Crockett, Randa Jeffries, and Whitney Jeffries; 14 grandchildren, Layton, Savanah, Jonathan, Hayley, Adler, Simon, Wyatt, Kamden, Tessa, Trypp, Rylee, Liam, Evelyn and Avett; two nephews, Dylan and Slater; a niece, Carlee; and a large extended family.      Honoring Randy’s wishes, a private committal service will be held at a later date.  Memorial contributions are suggested to Mary K. Finley Library in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
