Phillip Lee Storm, age 87, of Lamar, Missouri passed away at his home Wednesday, June 10, 2015 following a long illness.
Lee was born October 25, 1927 near Oronogo, Missouri, the sixth of the ten children of Sam and Viola (Minkler) Storm. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers, Oral, Troy, Jack, Fred, Ray, Floyd and Dale Storm; a sister, Ruth Talbott; and a son-in-law, David Dixon.
After graduating from Jasper High School in 1947, Lee enlisted the U.S. Army, serving in Guam. Returning home, he married the “sweetest thing in the bakery” Fay Voorhees, on November 27, 1952. They made their home and raised five children on a farm south of Lamar. In addition to farming, Lee had worked at Lawn Boy for over 12 years and retired after a 33 year career at Midwest Minerals. Lee and Fay moved to Lamar in 1989 and enjoyed traveling and sight-seeing all across the country. Lee was an avid reader, worked Sudoku and word puzzles daily, and was a loyal St. Louis Cardinal fan. He earned many trophies as a professional horse shoe pitcher and had served as president of Jasper Eagle Squares and Lamar Square Dance Club. Lee was a great neighbor and always looked forward to the fellowship of playing cards or board games with family and friends. He was an active member of First Christian Church of Lamar.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 63 years, Fay, of the home; five children and their spouses, Barbara Dixon, Jo Ann (Greg) Still, all of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, Larry (Dana) Storm, Jasper, Vi (Mike) Tubaugh, Carthage, and Phillip Jr. (Andrea) Storm, Jasper; a sister, Bessie Lawless, Carthage; ten grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time. Burial with full military honors will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.
