Norma Jo Isenhower, age 88, formerly of Lamar, passed away Monday morning, February 24, 2014 surrounded by her family in her home at Harlingen, Texas.
Jo was born August 7, 1925 at Jasper, Missouri, one of the three daughters of Joe and Nell (Neeley) Hardenbrook. On November 5, 1944, at Hugo, Oklahoma, she married Jay W. Isenhower, a WWII veteran, and they had celebrated 58 years together before his death December 5, 2002. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Annette Earl.
In addition to being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, Norma Jo had worked as a service representative for Bell Telephone and as a cashier at Savings & Loan. She had served as a charter board member of the first ambulance district in Barton County. After moving to Harlingen in 1994, Norma Jo was an active volunteer for HOSTS (Help One Student To Succeed) for 14 years. She will be remembered by many for her hospitality, her warm smile and cheerful outlook on life.
Survivors include a son, John J. Isenhower, San Antonio, Texas; a daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Bob Smith, Festus, Missouri; three grandchildren, Jason (Emily) Smith, Mason, Ohio, Ashleigh (Corey) Nagel, Arnold, Missouri, and Malcom Isenhower, Chicago, Illinois; and five great-grandchildren, Jack, Benjamin, and Samuel Smith, Carson and Evelyn Nagel; a sister, Nancy Woodward, Lamar; sister-in-law, Carolyn Isenhower, Fontana, Kansas; two nieces and six nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 29th at Daniel Funeral Home with her grandson, Pastor Jason Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lake Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
