Nora Lee Loewe

Nora Lee Loewe, age 88, of Lamar, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.        Nora Lee was born September 17, 1925, at Pittsburg, Kansas, one of the eight children of J.E. and Grace (Matzenbacher) Pistole.  She grew up in the Golden City area, staying with Art and Fern Cox most of her school years.  After graduating from Golden City High School, Nora Lee launched a career in teaching that spanned more than forty years.  Beginning at Mt. Carmel, she taught at several rural schools, then in the Golden City and Lamar School systems.  After teaching during the school year, Nora attended college in Pittsburg and Springfield each summer, earning a bachelor’s degree in education.  She was a member of Missouri State Teachers Association, and, after retiring in 1987, became a member of Missouri Retired Teachers Association.  Nora Lee was a talented seamstress, and enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and any activity that included her grandchildren.        On June 17, 1961, at Golden City, Missouri, Nora married Gene Loewe and he survives.  Also surviving are two daughters, Lisa (Tim) Riley and Linda (Terry) Richardson, all of Lamar; four grandchildren, Chelsea Riley, Trevon Riley, Melanie Richardson, and Kurt Richardson; a sister, Carol (Don) Bellamy, Scottsdale, Arizona; and five sisters-in-law, Barbara Pistole, Pittsburg, Kansas, Velma Crockett, Nadine (Deb) Mayfield, Wilma Braker, all of Lamar, and Betty (Joe) Gilmartin of Liberal. She was preceded in death by her parents, J.E. and Grace Pistole; Art and Fern Cox; three brothers, Charles, Carl, and Beryl Pistole; and three sisters, Frances Brady, Fern Berk, and Betty Jo Kelso.        Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 11th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.        Memorial contributions are suggested to American Heart Association in care of the funeral home.
