Mildred L. Diggs

Mildred Lucille Diggs, age 90, of Lamar, passed away Wednesday, July 1, 2009 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.        Mildred was born December 22, 1918, in Mindenmines, Missouri, to G. Cleve and Bertha (Sterling) Hale.  A life-long Barton County resident, Mildred graduated from Lamar High School in 1936 and began working at Meyer Drug Store.  She worked as a draftsman for Horton Engineering and Finley Engineering for many years, retiring in 1982.  Mildred was a member of Oakton United Methodist Church where she served as a youth counselor and had been active in the United Methodist Women.        On August 23, 1942, at Aurora, Missouri, Mildred married Steve C. Diggs and he preceded her in death July 19, 1994.  She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Harry, Maurice and Glenn Hale; and a sister, Gladys Stevens.        Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Dorris & Rev. Larry Garfield, a son and daughter-in-law, Steve, Jr. and Janet Diggs, all of Lamar; five grandchildren and their spouses, Mark & Kenda Garfield, Kent & Karen Garfield, Bryan & Carmen Garfield, Mike & Jennifer Diggs, Nichole & Jeff Hart; and 14 great-grandchildren.        A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Oakton United Methodist Church.  A private committal service will be held at Oakton Cemetery at a later date.        Memorial contributions are suggested to Oakton United Methodist Church Building Fund in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
