Lorene Rives

Ruby Lorene Rives, age 77, of rural Jasper, passed away Sunday, September 8, 2013 at Barton County Memorial Hospital in Lamar.      Lorene was born July 20, 1936, in the Barton County community of Newport, to Ivan C. and Zona Marie (Waggoner) Voorhees.  She attended Lamar High School and then earned a nursing degree from Franklin Tech Nursing School.  After working at several area hospitals, she began a 22 year career at St. Luke's Nursing Center in Carthage, retiring in 2009.  Lorene attended Jasper Methodist Church.      On November 20, 1951, at Huntsville, Arkansas, Lorene married Ronald L. Rives and he survives, of the home.  Also surviving are two sons and their wives, Ronald "Chub" & Terry Rives and Donald "Duck" & Dora Rives, all of Jasper; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie & Gailand Johnston, Lamar; a brother, Ivan Voorhees, Jr., Arma, Kansas; three sisters, Fay (Lee) Storm and Imajean (Russell) Pierson, all of Lamar, and Frances (Karl) McDaniel, Carthage, Missouri; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.  Lorene was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Lonnie Ray Rives; and two sisters, Rosalee Monroe and Dolly Toms.      The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 10th at Jasper Methodist Church where the funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 11, 2013.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery.      Memorial contributions are suggested to Mitchell Cemetery, American Diabetes Association or American Heart Association in care of Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar.
