Lois VanLandingham

Lois Nadine "Shorty" VanLandingham, age 88 of Liberal, Missouri, passed away December 17, 2013 in Sand Springs, Oklahoma after a long illness.      Shorty was born June 2, 1925 in Liberal to Roy and Versie (Smith) Essex.  She attended Liberal High School and later married Myrl VanLandingham on October 21, 1944.  She moved from Liberal to Kansas City Kansas, and in 1963, relocated to Campbell, California.  In 1982, she moved back to Liberal.  Shorty's favorite pastime was to quilt and crochet.  Her family meant everything to her.      Survivors include her five children and their spouses; Terry and Dave Hill of Liberal, Rick and Sharon VanLandingham of Granite Bay, California, Ron and Debbie VanLandingham of Sand Springs, Jerry and Lynn VanLandingham of Peyton, Colorado, and Becky and Marty Owens of Woodinville, Washington; 16 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren; her sister Margaret Martin of Santa Rosa, California; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.      Shorty was preceded in death by her husband Myrl on October 13, 1996; her parents, Versie and Roy; siblings Lawrence Essex, Leona Frame, Walter "Bud" Essex, Bertie Lewman and Harley Essex; and a grandson, Brian Trammell.      The family will receive friends at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar, Missouri, Saturday December 21st from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.  Funeral services will be at the Christian Church in Liberal on Sunday, December 22nd at 1:00 p.m.  Graveside services will be held at the Liberal Cemetery following the funeral service.      Pallbearers will be Rick, Ron, and Jerry VanLandingham, Dave Hill, Marty Owens and John Pock.  Jim Pock and Ronnie VanLandingham will serve as honorary pallbearers.      Memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, and/or American Heart Association in the name of Lois VanLandingham, in care of Daniel Funeral Home, 1201 Broadway Street, Lamar, Missouri  64759.
