Loeta Haile Julian

Loeta Marie Haile Julian, age 87, of Lamar, passed away Saturday evening, August 27, 2016, at Barton County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.      Loeta was born October 29, 1928, in Joplin, Missouri, to Frank and Ona (McDaniel) Messer.     On October 1, 1949, at Lamar, Loeta married Roland Haile and they had shared more than 44 years together before his death on January 11, 1994.  She married Pete Julian November 25, 1995 and he preceded her in death August 23, 2008.  She was also preceded in death by her parents, Frank Messer and Ona Messer Hackney; her step-father, Sam Hackney; and her half-brother, Glenn Hackney.   A strong work ethic and interest in sewing and quilting was sparked at an early age as Loeta worked at Sam & Ona Hackney’s Dry Goods Store on the east side of the Lamar square. After graduating from Lamar High School in 1946, Loeta earned a teaching degree from SMS in Springfield and taught at Forest Grove country school for a short time.  In addition to being a farm wife and devoted homemaker, Loeta had served as Richland Township Collector for many years.  Over the years, she had also worked at the Lamar ASCS Office, Blue Top Restaurant, and Thorco.  She will be remembered by many as an accomplished seamstress and avid quilter who enjoyed the challenge of difficult patterns and intricate design.      Survivors include a son, Terry (Becky) Haile of Carthage; a daughter, Melanie (Ron) Bruffett of Lamar; a step-daughter, Beverly (Alan) Babigan of Fayetteville, North Carolina; five grandchildren, April (Tim) Riley, Gretchen (Kyle) Rozeboom, Seth (Ali) Bruffett, Terra (Daniel) Crihfield, and Trevor (Lacy) Haile; ten great-grandchildren, Grace, Kelton, Noah, Owen, Cooper, August, Trace, Loralei, Landry, and Elsa; and many extended Haile and Julian family members.      The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 2nd at Daniel Funeral Home.      A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 3rd at Mount Carmel Cemetery.      Memorial contributions are suggested to Barton County Memorial Hospital, Good Shepherd Nursing Home, or Hospice Compassus, in care of the funeral home.
