Linda June Payne, age 84, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away on August 1, 2025, at Cox Barton County Hospital in Lamar.
Linda was born June 1, 1941, in Sedalia, Missouri, to Wilmer “Bill” Harold Payne and Mildred Lucille (Schlib) Payne. She worked in the housekeeping department at Chastain’s for 19 years, where she was known for her dedication and kind spirit.
Linda was a devoted Christian who gave her heart to Jesus in 1975. She faithfully attended Full Gospel Tabernacle for 45 years. A woman of deep faith and discipline, Linda read the Bible in full 12 times and continued her morning ritual of reading a chapter daily. She also expressed her love for the Lord through songwriting.
Linda had many interests—she enjoyed reading, puzzle books, and creating beautiful latch hook rugs. When she was younger, she was also a proud member of the Polly Pigtails Club. After retiring, she and her mother traveled extensively, visiting such places as Redwood National Park in California, Mackinac Island in Michigan, and Nova Scotia, Canada.
She is survived by three brothers: Dan Payne and his wife, Ann, of Lamar; John Payne and his wife, Paula, of Ozark; and Todd Payne and his, wife, Lori of Lamar; one sister, Susan Medlin, and her husband, Don, of Lamar; as well as 16 nieces and nephews, 24 great-nieces and great-nephews, and 16 great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Judy (Payne) Redford; a nephew, Todd Adam Payne; and a great-niece, Makayla Jones.
A visitation will be held from 10–11 a.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, at Daniel Funeral Home. A private family reception will follow.
