Leta Lorraine Barnes, age 97, of Lamar, MO
passed Monday, February 27, 2017 at Good Shepherd Nursing Home.
Leta was born January 8, 1920 in Hocomo,
Missouri to John S. and Amelia Iva (Rogers) Hunter. She graduated from Bakersfield High School,
in 1937. On June 18, 1939, she married Leslie Eugene “Gene” Barnes at Amy
Union Chapel in Hocomo, Missouri and together they raised four children. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist
Church. She enjoyed working jigsaw and crossword puzzles, sewing, gardening,
reading and teaching the bible.
Survivors include one son, Robert E.
Barnes and wife, Suzie, of Chesapeake, Virginia; two daughters, Lorraine Vice
and husband Harvey, Lamar, Missouri and Jody Jones and husband Gary, Atlanta,
Georgia; one sister, Jean Campbell, West Plains, Missouri; six grandchildren;
15 great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren, and many nieces and
nephews. She was preceded in death by
her parents, her husband Gene Barnes, a son, Michal D. Barnes, and five
sisters.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 am, Monday,
March 6, 2017 at First Baptist Church, with Pastor Robb Hodson officiating.
The family will receive friends 10:00 am
until service time, Monday at the church.
Graveside services will be 11:00 am
Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at Amy Cemetery, Hocomo, Missouri.
