Lela Madison

Lela Faye Madison, age 90, of Lamar, passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.     Lela was born May 11, 1923 in Carroll County, Ohio, to Frank and Mary Ann (Morrison) Lutes.   She served in the U.S. Army from 1943 through 1945 during World War II.  In October of 1944, at Shreveport, Louisiana, she married Charles L. Madison, Sr. and, after completing their military duties, they made their home and raised their family near Girard, Kansas.  In 1967 they purchased a Barton County farm, east of Lamar, where they worked together until retiring and moving to Lamar in the early 1990s.  In addition to being a farm wife, Lela had worked for the U.S. Census Bureau.  She was a faithful member of Hopewell Cumberland Presbyterian Church, the Friendship Needle Club, and a life-time member of Lamar American Legion Post and Auxiliary.  Lela enjoyed gardening and always had beautiful flower beds.  Her talent for decorating will be remembered by many who appreciated her Christmas decorations and the red, white and blue tributes she made for Morehead Cemetery.      Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Charles, Jr. and Linda Madison, Lamar: a daughter, Barbara Molinaro, Eaton Park, Florida; a grandson, Mike Madison, Lamar; a granddaughter, Christy and Casey Pyle, Lamar; three great-grandchildren, Mikayla Madison, Charlize and Callie Jo Pyle; a brother, Frank Lutes, East Rochester, Ohio; a sister Doris Dennis, Auburn, California; extended family and a host of friends.  Lela was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Leonard Frank Madison; her husband, Charles, Sr., June 14, 1998; three sisters; and a brother.      Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 17th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 until service time.  Burial with full military honors will be in Morehead Cemetery.      Memorial contributions are suggested to Hopewell Presbyterian Church or the charity of the donor's choice in care of the funeral home.
