Johnie Homer Kerney

Johnie Homer Kerney, 79, formerly of Lamar, MO and Pekin, IL, went home to be with the Lord on February 13, 2016 with his family by his side.      Johnie was born July 25, 1936 near Jasper, to Willis and Iola G. (Cones) Kerney.  Johnie attended Webb City Schools and then enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps 1953 – 1955.  He married Doris Swanger and they had three daughters, Debra, Robin and Mary. He married Opal Dockery and had one son John and one daughter, Melissa. Married Patricia Shumney and had one daughter Kimberly. Then had one daughter, Kristina B. Kerney whose mother is Janice Seeley.      Johnie loved hunting, guns, fishing, dogs, motor cycles, fast cars, and square dancing, belonging to many square dancing clubs in MO and IL. Johnie was a laborer most of his life, retiring from Garnac Grain Co., Pekin, IL due to health issues.      Johnie was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Iola Kerney, one sister Marilyn Sanders, and two grandchildren.      Survivors include one sister, Barbara (Kerney) Lofton of Oronogo, MO; daughters, Debra (Kerney) Hosp, and husband Tommy of Purcell, MO, Robin (Kerney) Frink, and husband Richard, of Carthage, MO, Mary Ann (Kerney) Smith and husband John of Carthage, MO, Melissa (Kerney) Irlandi of Port Charlotte, FL, Kimberly (Kerney) Howard and husband Tom of Miller, MO, Kristine Kerney of Pekin, IL; one son, John Howard Kerney of Milford, MO; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren’ two great great-granddaughters; four nieces, Marsha, Patty, Tammy and Becky; one nephew, Alvin; an aunt, Nellie Higgins; an uncle Lee Cones; many cousins, including his cousin and best friend, Larry Gale Higgins and wife Mary of Jerico Springs, Missouri.      Special thanks to Hospice Compasus for such great care.      Funeral service will be 1:00 pm Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Greenfield Cemetery, Jerico Springs, MO.      The family will receive friends 6:00 to 7:30 pm, Friday at Daniel Funeral Home.      A family gathering will be held at 818 W. Central, Carthage, MO following the burial.
