Jerry Carrier

Gerald Lee “Jerry” Carrier, age 70, of Lamar, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at Freeman West Hospital surrounded by his family.    Jerry was born December 9, 1945 at Ottawa, Illinois where he spent his childhood.  Entering in the U.S. Navy in 1963, he proudly served aboard the USS Charles R. Ware, completing his tour of duty in 1966.  Returning home, Jerry worked for O’Neil Construction in Chicago for several years.      On October 3, 1970 at St. Louis, Missouri, Jerry married Rita Partington. They came to Lamar to help care for Jerry’s parents, Tom and Florence Snead, and Missouri became their home.  In February 1974 Jerry began his career with Thorco Industries, retiring in December 2008 after nearly 35 years.      A skilled woodworker, Jerry enjoyed creating projects for family and friends. Retirement gave him more time to spoil his cats, take motorcycle trips, spend time outdoors target shooting or fishing, and relish in any activity that could be shared with his grandkids.       Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Rita; three sons, Jerry (Kim) Carrier and Tim (Lisa) Carrier, all of Ottawa, Illinois and Alan Carrier, Lamar; a daughter, Cindy (Chris) Fick, Box Springs, Georgia; an adopted daughter, Alish Boyd; a sister, Toni (Ron) McCulley, Lamar; two step-sisters, Patricia and Tanna; two step-brothers, Ron and Tom; and cousins, Sam and Ken Thomas, Marseilles, Illinois.  Jerry was a loving “Pa” to seven grandchildren, Elaina, Tag, and Jax Carrier, Dani, T.J. Fick, Camille and Grady Carrier.  He enjoyed the fellowship of a large extended family and many friends.  Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; a special Aunt Hazel; a half-brother, Denny; and a half-sister, Dixie.      The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 8th at Daniel Funeral Home.  Funeral services will begin at 7:00 p.m. immediately following visitation.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery at a later date.      Memorial contributions are suggested to the Carrier family, in care of the funeral home.
