Janet Gordon

Janet Ruth Gordon, age 74, of Lamar, peacefully passed away Saturday afternoon, July 9, 2016, at Truman Healthcare Center, surrounded by her family.      Janet was born May 18, 1942, in Madera, California, first of the six children of Willis and Martha (George) Gordon.  She was preceded in death by her parents and a niece, Sheila (Gordon) Mayfield.       Moving to Lamar with her mother in 1973, Janet became an active member of First Christian Church where she enjoyed the fellowship and activities of the Sunny Corner Sunday School Class.  Always industrious and glad to be busy, she first worked at Lamar Sheltered Workshop and, later, at Vantage Point.  Janet always looked forward to Sunday family gatherings, homemade ice cream, playing cards and dominos with family and friends, strumming her guitar and singing her favorite gospel or country songs.      Survivors include four brothers and their wives, Jerry & Lura Gordon, Jasper, Missouri, Gary & Patricia Gordon, Carthage, Missouri, Bob & Peggy Gordon and Ron & Soni Gordon, all of Claremore, Oklahoma; a sister, Betty Dennis, Lamar; an uncle and aunts, Jack & Carolyn Gordon, Nevada, Missouri, Rosalee Potter, Lamar, and Lucille George, Iola, Kansas; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces; and a large extended family.      Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 14th, at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday.  Burial will be in Sheldon Cemetery.      Memorial contributions are suggested to Barton County Senior Center or First Christian Church of Lamar, in care of the funeral home.
