James O. Fanning

James Ola Fanning, age 87, of Lamar, died at his home November 26, 2013, after a long illness. James was born March 15, 1926 at Lamar, MO to Joe and Eunice (Doyle) Fanning.  He attended school in Lamar and on November 20, 1948, he married Reba Lucille Morey and together they raised four children.  James was a member of Lamar First Christian Church and was a member of the Lamar VFW.  He served in the U S Army from 1944 until 1946 with service in Europe, the Philippines and Japan. He had worked as a Die Setter for Thorco Industries until his retirement. James is survived by his wife of 65 years, three sons, Jim & Cheryl Fanning, Gary & Angie Fanning, and Larry & Donna Fanning all of Lamar; one daughter, Kathy and Neil Simons of Lamar; one brother, Victor Fanning of Excelsior Springs, MO; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews.  His parents, one brother, Joe Fanning and three sisters, Mandy Yount, Eva Voorhees, and Jessie Blankenship preceded him in death. A memorial service will be 1:00 pm Monday, December 2, 2013 at Daniel Funeral Home with Military Honors to follow at the funeral home. Contributions are suggested to American Diabetes Association in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
