James Muriel “Jim” McManus went to be with his Savior, Jesus at 12:00 midnight, Monday April 14, 2014. He was 84 years old. His residence for the past ten months was Lamar, Missouri.
He passed away from liver cancer at Truman Healthcare Center, peacefully in his sleep, with songs of the Lord playing in the background.
James was born on November 1, 1929 at Great Falls, Montana to James and Lillian McManus. James graduated from East High in Kansas City, Missouri, February 14, 1947. On February 14, 1950 James married the love of his life, Frances Belle Pinkerton in Charlotte, South Carolina and they had seven children. They received the Missouri Foster Parent Award and also received many accolades within their churches.
James worked for Wal-Mart for 26 years where he received many recognitions, and retired as a manager in 1994. His hobbies were spending time with his family, which he dearly loved, caring for their foster babies, and ministering to hundreds of homeless in the Kansas City, Missouri area.
James is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Frances McManus; two sons, Gary (Suzanne) McManus of Coffeyville, KS, Larry (Kathy) McManus of Independence, KS; five daughters, Teri Boswell of Lamar, MO, Sheri Clark of Springfield, MO, Traci McManus of Fort Worth, TX, Jasmine (Tim) Boston of Kansas City, MO, and Tiona McManus of Fort Worth, TX; four brothers; John McManus, Paul McManus, Stephen McManus, and David McManus; three sisters; Margret Cox, Pricillia Wytcherly, Mary Ester McCain and spouses; 10 grandchildren, James, Jason, and Jeffrey McManus, Angela Balloun, Heather King, Amy Morrison, Chad McManus, Andrew Boswell, Shawn Clark, and Timothy James Boston; 26 great grandchildren and 171 foster children.
James is preceded in death by his parents, James and Lillian McManus, brother Pat McManus and sister Janette McManus.
Dad’s prayer is that everyone would come to the knowledge of Jesus. “I’ll see you on the other side in Glory!” Celebrating a legacy!
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday April 19th, 2014, at Lamar Family Ministries Center, with Pastor Andrew Boswell and James McManus officiating. Pastor Bob Petersen will be offering a Prayer of Healing. Visitation will be from 6-7:00 p.m. Friday April 18th at Lamar Family Ministries Center, Highway 160 & Gulf Street. Burial will be at Lake Cemetery, Lamar, Missouri.
