Jack L. Swartz

Jack L. Swartz, age 71, of Lamar, died Friday July 31, 2009 at St. John’s Regional Medical Center after short illness.   He was born January 21, 1938 at Lamar, to LeRoy and Margaret (Nelson) Swartz.  Jack graduated Lamar High School 1955 and served as a Tank Sergeant in the National Guard.   On January 10, 1959 at Odessa, Mo., he married Carolyn F. Elder.  They made their home in Wyoming, Idaho and Minnesota before moving back to Lamar in 1998.  He worked for 43 years for the Rural Electric Administration.  Jack was a member of the Boston United Methodist Church and the Lamar United Methodist Church.  He was also a member of the Lamar Masonic Lodge and the Golden Ager’s Group of the Oakton United Methodist Church.   Survivors include three sons, and daughter-in-law, Craig & Diana Swartz, Lamar, Kurt & Carla Swartz, Lamar, and Eric & Joetta Swartz, Clever, MO; one daughter Diana Ryan, Clever, MO; one sister, Jane Garfield and husband Walter, Lamar; nine grandchildren, Allison Sorg, Jared Ryan, Zachary Swartz, Telicia Swartz, Bethany Swartz, Elly Swartz, Lyndey Swartz, Jessica Swartz, and Jacob Swartz; one great-grandson, Skyler Sorg. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Carolyn on April 8, 2006.   Visitation will be 6 until 7 pm Monday, August 3, 2009 at Daniel Funeral Home.   Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 4, at Daniel Funeral Home.   Memorial contributions are suggested to the Donor’s Choice in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
