Irene Diana Epler

Irene Diana Epler, age 71, of Lamar, passed away early Wednesday morning, March 20, 2013 at her home following a courageous battle with cancer.    Irene was born September 7, 1941, at Canton, Ohio, the oldest daughter of the six children of Harry and Goldie (Wilson) Craig. A life-long learner, she graduated from Jackson Memorial High School in 1959, later earned an Associate of Arts degree from Ohio Valley College, completed a B.S. in elementary education at Davis & Elkins College in 2010, and was a current member of the National Child Development Association. She will be fondly remembered by countless students and fellow teachers for her patient, caring nature and abundant love for children.    On September 7, 1962, at Massilon, Ohio, Irene married an evangelist, Paul W. Epler, and they have spent the past fifty years ministering in numerous communities in Utah, West Virginia, New Jersey, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, South Carolina, Ohio, and Missouri. Wherever they made their home, Irene was devoted to her Lord, her husband, her family, and to serving wherever there was a need.    Survivors include her beloved husband, Paul, of the home; three sons and their wives, John & Marsha Epler, Buckhannon, West Virginia, Keith & Penny Epler, Southhaven, Mississippi, and Stephen & Donna Epler, Haleyville, Alabama; a daughter, DeAnna Epler, Hollister, Missouri; four grandsons, Chris, Adam, James, and Seth; three brothers and their wives, James & Ruth Craig, Lakeview, Ohio, Allen & Linda Craig, Canton, Ohio, and Randy & Dianne Craig, Letohatchee, Alabama; a sister, Arlene Meier, Ashland, Ohio; and a sister-in-law, Linda Kennedy, Morrilton, Arkansas. Irene was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wayne Craig; a nephew, Scotty Meier; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Craig.    A celebration of Irene's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 23rd at Daniel Funeral Home in Lamar where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday.    An additional service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 26th at Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville, Ohio. Burial will be in Greenlawn Union Cemetery in Perrysville, Ohio.    Memorial contributions are suggested to the Epler family to help defray travel expenses in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
