Hugh Buster Suggs, age 84, of Lamar,
passed away Sunday, September 21, 2008,
at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin.
Hugh was born February 12, 1924, in Hulbert,
Oklahoma, to Hugh and Betty (Osage)
Suggs. He graduated from Ochelata
High School in 1942 and enlisted in
the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. On
August 25, 1946, at Tulsa,
Oklahoma, Hugh married Blanche Lowther.
Hugh worked for Sinclair Oil & Gas for eight years. He then worked as a dispatcher for Douglas Aircraft
for many years, retiring from McDonnell-Douglas in 1984. After retiring, Hugh and Blanche moved to
Jasper, Missouri and then to
Lamar in 1996. He was a member of Owasso
Lodge No. 545 A.F. & A.M.; Scottish Rite of Freemasonry 32 , KCCH in the
Valley of Tulsa, Orient of Oklahoma; the Akdar Shrine; Daylight Lodge; Tulsa
White Shrine of Jerusalem where he was Past Watchman of Shepherds; Past Royal
Patron of Will Rogers Amaranth Court; Past Patron of Alverson Chapter, Order
of Eastern Star; Past Noble Grand of Debolt Lodge 515; Calla
Rebekah Lodge 160; and Jasper VFW Post 6415.
He was a member of Jasper Christian Church where he served as a deacon.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years,
Blanche, of the home; three daughters, Rosetta & husband Kenneth Baker,
Yukon, Oklahoma, Lana Leigh West, Claremore, Oklahoma, and Marcella &
husband Jack Groshans, Evansville, Indiana; a brother, Donald Suggs, Hulbert,
Oklahoma; a sister, Francis Smith, Shawnee, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Andrew
Baker, Rhonda Glenn, Audra Faye Spencer, Alicia Fern Flanagan, Joshua David
Groshans, and Desiree Lynn Stinchfield; and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Carlos
Eugene Suggs and two sisters, Viola Ramsey and Juanita Allen.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24th
at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time Wednesday. Burial will be in Paradise
Cemetery with military honors
conducted by Jasper VFW Post 6415.
