Herbert George Overstreet, age 78, of
Lamar, passed away Sunday, September 7, 2008 at Barton County Memorial
Hospital.
Herb and his twin brother, Harold, were
born June 15, 1930, at
Liberal, Missouri, to Charles L.
and Frona (Coy) Overstreet. On December 21, 1951, at Lamar, Herb
married Ruth Nadine Bennett and they have made their home in Lamar for many
years. Herb entered the U.S. Army in
1952, serving in Japan
during the Korean War. Returning home,
he worked in telecommunications construction for Frank Horton Engineering for
several years, was a farm equipment mechanic for S & H Farm Supply in
Lockwood for many years, and retired from Thorco in Lamar in 1996. Herb enjoyed camping, fishing, and any
activity that could be shared with his grandchildren and
great-grandchildren. He was a member of Oakton
United Methodist
Church where he was active in the
Golden Agers group.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years,
Nadine, of the home; four sons and daughters-in-law, Herb & Connie
Overstreet, Lamar, Harold & Jane Overstreet, Colorado Springs, Colorado,
Bradley & Rhonda Overstreet, Lamar, Greg & Belinda Overstreet,
Carthage; a brother, Charles & wife Alice Overstreet, Carthage; 11
grandchildren, Jamie & wife Melissa Overstreet and Bryan & wife Denise
Overstreet, all of Lamar, Ashley Overstreet, Dayton, Ohio, Caleb & wife
Heather Overstreet, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Cooper Overstreet, Seattle, Washington,
Brenda Overstreet, Lamar, Carina Overstreet, Colorado Springs, Jordan Overstreet,
Springfield, Missouri, Gregory Overstreet, Carthage, Chasity & husband
Justin Anderson, Carthage, and Crystal Hood, Carthage; and 10
great-grandchildren, Kaden, Kyler, Kolin, Kase, Krissy, Kiley, Josiah,
Kirsalyn, Kauldin, and Jayston. Herb was
preceded in death by a son, John Wayne Overstreet and three brothers, Harold,
Melvin, and Ralph Overstreet.
A graveside funeral service will be held
at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, September
10th at Oakton Cemetery
with Pastor Kent Garfield officiating.
The
family will receive friends from 7 until 9 p.m.
Tuesday at Daniel Funeral Home.
