Helen Renee Horton

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, July 29, 2023, for Helen Renee Horton, age 71, of Golden City, Missouri who passed away November 20, 2022, at Good Shepherd Community Care after a brief illness.
 
Helen was born August 31, 1951, in Union Star, to John and Opal (Giffin) Beattie. She grew up around the Union Star area and married her first husband. After divorcing, she and her two young daughters moved to Golden City in 1973 to be closer to her parents. Helen married Dennis V. Horton on December 11, 1976. She welcomed and raised his daughter Lesia, along with her own two daughters, Dawn, and Samantha and together they had two more children, Jay, and Leana.
 
Helen worked for several local companies, Big Smith and then O’Sullivan’s for over 20 years until they shut their doors. She retired from Cox Barton County Hospital after 20 years but continued working there in the housekeeping department until her stroke in November of 2022.

Survivors include her husband, Dennis; four daughters, Dawn (Brian) Heath, Samantha McCulley, all of Golden City, Lesia Wagner of Springfield, and Leana (Robert) Saxinger of Lamar; one son, Jay Horton of Nixa; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Katherine (Wayne) Carrell of Union Star; a brother-in-law, Gene Jones of Commerce, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Velma Horton and Linda Brunner Horton of Golden City, along with numerous nieces and nephews. Helen will be dearly missed by family, friends, and co-workers.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Sherrill Beattie and one sister, Deanna Jones.
