Gene "Spanky" Hagins

Milton Eugene Hagins, age 62, of Lamar, MO passed away October 27, 2020, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin, MO. Gene was born July 4, 1958 in Lamar, MO to Linville Bryant and Mary Ethel (Robinson) Hagins. He graduated from Lockwood High School in the class of 1977. On June 15, 1979, Gene married Beverly Jo Rea at Forest Grove Baptist Church, in Lamar, MO. Gene worked for Thorco Industries for 40 years and had worked at Stanley Milling for the past three years. He also owned and operated Gene's Lawn Care Service for eight years, which included servicing and repairing other people's lawnmowers and weed eaters. He loved hunting and fishing and was an avid sports fan of baseball and basketball, but his passion was football, especially the Kansas City Chiefs. He always looked forward to deer season, so he could spend special time with family. Gene helped with anything and everything at the First Christian Church, which included helping his wife with the three to five-year-old children in the Bible Bees Class. Survivors include his wife of 41 years; one son, Jonathan Lee (Kimberlee) Hagins, Lamar, MO; one daughter, Amanda Lou (Josh) Blanchard, Lamar, MO; one brother, Lonnie (Pat) Hagins, Cassville, MO; one sister, Linda Lou Hagins, Lamar, MO; brothers and sisters in law, Linda Arlene Hagins, Carthage, MO, John Rea, Nowata, OK, Lavinia Rea, Weir, KS, Darrell (Kim) Rea, Lamar, MO, Charlette (Wayne), Lamar, MO, Peggy (Richard) Blanchard, Lamar, MO, David (Betty) Rea, Nowata, OK; six grandchildren, Auri Blanchard, Shadol Blanchard, Kayne Blanchard, Malia Blanchard, Taralee Hagins, and Grayson Hagins; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Preceding Gene in death were his parents and two brothers, Larry Bryant Hagins and Linville Lee Hagins. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 31, 2020, at Daniel Funeral Home with visitation following the service. A private family burial will be at Greenfield Cemetery, Jerico Springs, MO. Contributions are suggested and made payable to St. Jude Children's Hospital or the American Cancer Society in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
