Gary L. Waltz

Gary Lee Waltz, age 56, of rural Jasper, died in a hunting accident Friday, May 8, 2009 in rural Barton County.      Gary was born August 10, 1952 at Carthage , MO to George and Genevieve (Pennington) Waltz.  After graduating from Jasper High School in 1970, he earned an associates degree in drafting engineering from Pittsburg State University in 1972.  He served in the Missouri National Guard 203rd  Engineer Battalion in Carthage from 1972 to 1978.   On April 15, 1973 at Zion Baptist Church , east of Jasper, he married Villa Marie Walker and they have farmed together near Jasper for the past 36 years.       Gary was an active member and Trustee of First Baptist Church of Jasper; served 6 years on the Jasper R-V School Board; was Director/President of Farmers COOP of Jasper; was a former board member of Heart of America Gelbvieh Association.  He also served as a director of the Barton Co. Propane board.       Survivors include his wife, Villa of the home, a son, Brad and his wife Jama Waltz of Jasper; a daughter Amie and her husband Justin Primm of Jasper; his mother Genevieve Waltz of Jasper; a very special niece and nephew, Samantha and Russ Hall of Aurora, MO; three sisters, Barbara Pagacz of Lamar, Vicky Myers of Jasper, and Debbie Willhite of Lamar; five grandchildren, Addy Primm, Jonathan Kohley, Kirstin Winchester, Morgan Winchester, and Logan Winchester; his mother-in-law Mary Walker of Jasper; sisters-in-law and their husbands, Vina & Mike Kahre of Lockwood, Dana & Kenny Owen of Lamar; also many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews; and very special friends, Rocky & Karen Rush of Jasper.      The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Monday at First Baptist Church of Jasper.       Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, at First Baptist Church of Jasper with Rev Greg Gooch officiating.  Burial will be in Mitchell Cemetery east of Jasper.          Memorial contributions are suggested to First Baptist Church Building Fund or the Jasper County Youth Fair in care of Daniel Funeral Home, 1201 Broadway, Lamar, MO 64759 .
