Evlyn Higgins

Evlyn Frances Higgins, age 90, of Lamar, Missouri died at her home, Thursday, July 24, 2014.     Evlyn was born June 11, 1924 at Newport, Missouri to Oscar and Ada (Felkner) Lucas.  On July 4, 1943, she married Orville “Ray” Higgins and he preceded her in death April 13, 2000.  She had worked at O’Sullivan Industries in the metal shop for 20 years, retiring in 1989.  Evlyn enjoyed her vegetable garden, especially her strawberries, but her family was the most important thing in her life.      Evlyn leaves behind one son, Carrol (Sharon) Higgins, Lamar; one daughter, Donna (Paul) Reedy, Nevada, Missouri; one brother, Franklin (Beverly) Lucas, Lamar; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.  Additional survivors include sisters-in-law, June Miles, Lorene Higgins, Nellie Higgins, and Mary Ann Higgins, all of Lamar, and Helen Higgins, Newport, Missouri.     Preceding her in death were her parents; husband; two brothers, Clarence Lucas and an infant brother; one sister, Alice Behrent; and a son, Donald Higgins, who died, June 12, 2014.     Funeral service will be 10:00 am Monday, July 28, 2014 at Daniel Funeral Home with Rob Wilson officiating.  Burial will follow at Moorehead Cemetery.     Contributions are suggested to Barton County Senior Center in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
