Doug Bartlett, age 64, of Lamar, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2013 at his home following a long illness.
Doug was born October 9, 1948 in Lamar to George Henry and Sylva Belle (Pyle) Bartlett. For a few years he lived in Nashville, Tennessee, graduating from Antioch High School in 1966. Returning to Lamar, Doug spent most of his working career as a general contractor. In addition to new home construction, he was an accomplished finish carpenter and craftsman, specializing in cabinetry and trim work. He had also installed carpet for Berry-Moore for many years. As an advertising representative for Pro-Ad Golf, Doug enjoyed the opportunity to call on and play courses throughout the United States. He was an avid golfer, bird hunter, a talented pool player who seldom lost a game, and an excellent cook. Doug was a member of the Lamar Country Club and Barton County Eagles.
Survivors include the love of his life, Vickie Clark, of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Jason & Christy Bartlett, Lamar; a daughter and son-in-law, Julie & Doug Adams, Leawood, Kansas; two brothers, George (Lisa) Bartlett, Nashville, Tennessee and Ran D. (Missy) Bartlett, La Vergne, Tennessee; two sisters, Nicki Bartlett, Grand Lake, Oklahoma and Cindy (Tim) Ring, Lewisburg, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Ali, Mark & Darrah Bartlett and Brooklyn & Aubrey Adams; a special uncle and aunt, Wayne & Donna Workman; a large extended family and many close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his paternal grandmother, Lula Bartlett; and two of his closest friends, Larry Ihm and Jerry Hagen.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 26th at Daniel Funeral Home. Honoring Doug's wishes, cremation will follow visitation and a memorial celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 29th at Barton County Eagles on Highway 160 east of Lamar.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Barton County Eagles or American Lung Association in care of the funeral home.
