Dorothy Snyder

Dorothy Lou Snyder, age 88, of Lamar, passed away Saturday morning, January 13, 2018, at Kindred Hospital in Gladstone, Missouri.      Dorothy was born August 13, 1929, in Lamar, to Bud and Ladye (Yoke) Rawlings.  After graduating from Liberal High School in 1947 she moved to Kansas City to enroll in business college. Her work ethic, attention to detail, and sharp mind helped her to excel as a secretary for various companies including TWA and Bethany Medical Center.      In 1955, Dorothy married Bill Rittermeyer and together they had four children, Bruce, Doug, Pam, and Cheryl.  Bill unexpectedly passed away in 1972.  Dorothy married Will Snyder in 1986 and he preceded her in death in 2014.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; her son, Bruce Rittermeyer; a daughter-in-law, Marcia Snyder; her sister, Carolyn Skinner; a sister-in-law, Judy Rawlings; and two brothers, Gene Rawlings and George Rawlings.      Always active in her community, Dorothy was devoted member of Lamar United Methodist Church where she enjoyed the fellowship of the United Methodist Women’s Group.  She was instrumental in Chapter #74, Order of the Eastern Star for many years. Her love of country was obvious by her work with Barton County Republican Women’s Club and her interest in political campaigns. Dorothy and Will enjoyed blue grass festivals and their winter vacations in the Southwest.  Above all, family was a priority in Dorothy’s life and nothing brought her more joy than time spent around her table or the yearly Bella Vista vacations making memories with all of her grandchildren.      Survivors include her son, Doug Rittermeyer, Liberty, Missouri; two daughters, Pam Anderson and Cheryl Rittermeyer, Kansas City, Missouri; two step-sons, Bert (Rhonda) Snyder, Lane, Kansas and Bruce Snyder, Olathe, Kansas; two brothers, John (Jodie) Rawlings, Liberal, Missouri and Richard (Martha) Rawlings, Oklahoma; two sisters, Kathryn Sharron, Liberal, and Marguerite (Lee) Buzzard, Lamar; two sisters-in-law, Earlene Rawlings, Lamar, and Ramona Snyder, Kansas City; 11 grandchildren, Billy and Hanna Anderson, Bailey (Jeremy) Capps, Robin and Whitney Rittermeyer, Nicole (Brad) Dickinson, Jessica Snyder, Courtney (Shawn) Stene, Cody Church, Kaye Lee (Ryan) Rogers, and Amanda (Mike) Stewart; five great-grandchildren, Lila & Noah Capps, Bella Goranson, Evelyn Dickinson, and Conley Stewart; and a large extended family.      Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends immediately following an Eastern Star ceremony that will begin at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday.  Burial will be in Barton City Cemetery northeast of Liberal, Missouri.      Memorial contributions are suggested to Lamar United Methodist Church in care of the funeral home.
