Dorothy M. Atkisson

Dorothy Marie Atkisson, age 84, of Lamar, MO passed Saturday, May 3, 2014 at Truman Healthcare Center. Dorothy was born March 24, 1930 at Swaine, AR to James Robert Brison and Elma (Hatcher) Brison. On June 27, 1953 she married Tevis James Atkisson and together they had three children.  She worked for Smith Brothers Manufacturing 1965 to 1978 and for O’Sullivan Industries from 1978 to 1992.  Dorothy loved quilting, gardening and being a farm wife.  She was an admirer of livestock and was faithful to decorate family graves in AR. Survivors include one son, James and his wife Kathy Atkisson, Lamar, MO; one daughter, Nancy and her husband Kyle Blanchard, Lamar, MO; two grandchildren, Kyla and husband Scott Miles, Willard, MO; and Justin and wife Brittany Blanchard, Lamar, MO; three great-grandchildren, Layla Blanchard, Tevis Blanchard, and Hayden Miles; and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death, were her husband in 2002; an infant son Carl Dean Atkisson in 1954; two brothers, Coy Brison as an infant and Hoyt Brison in 1998; two sisters, Onita Brison as an infant and Thelma Bowling in 1973. Funeral service will be 2:00 pm Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Daniel Funeral Home with Mike Tunnell officiating. Burial will follow at Lake Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at Daniel Funeral Home. Contributions are suggested to American Diabetes Association in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
