Dorothy Alma Combs, age 98, of Lamar, MO died at her home, July 18, 2013. Dorothy was born February 19, 1915 at Moweaqua, IL to Charles Mason Plain and Millie Amelia (Herring) Plain.  On October 14, 1939 she married Jimmy Combs at Stockton, MO and together they raised five children.  After Jimmy’s death in 1979, she was married to Rex Housh for 18 years until his death in 2010. Dorothy was a retired merchant & business owner of Jim & Charlie’s Market for 20 years.  She had also worked as a nurse at Barton County Memorial Hospital for 13 years and was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She attended the Oakton United Methodist Church and was a member of the Barton County Eagles, enjoyed gardening, canning and sewing Survivors include three sons, Jimmie Dale & Sue Combs of Sikeston, MO, Johnnie Lee & Brenda Combs of Raytown, MO, and Charlie & Theresa Combs of Lamar, MO; two daughters, Coleen Calton of Allen, TX and Terri & Lonnie Elswick of Middeltown Maryland; three sisters, Bernice Workman of Decatur, IL, Ruby Hamm of Decatur, IL, and Lillie Johnson of Lamar, MO; 12 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Preceding her in death in addition to her husbands were four brothers, Glen, Clyde, Howard and Ivan Plain, and a sister Eunice Quarles. Funeral service will be 11:00 am Saturday, July 20, 2013 at Daniel Funeral Home with burial to follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 am until service time. Contributions are suggested to Oakton United Methodist Church or Hospice Compassus in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
