Doris Onstott

Doris Marie Onstott, age 84, of rural Lamar passed away Thursday, June 27, 2013 at her home.      Doris was born November 20, 1928 at the Morgan family farm home in Barton County, Missouri,  one of the five children of Arthur and Alice (Pugh) Morgan.  After graduating from Lamar High School in 1946, she earned a teaching certificate from Bolivar Teachers College and taught school at Doris Valley and Rocky Mound rural schools.  On January 31, 1947, at Lamar, Doris married the love of her life, Russell Gail Onstott.  They were a life-long farm family, making their home and raising their family in Barton County.  In addition to being a farm wife, Doris was an excellent homemaker and cook, an avid reader and gardener, a 4-H leader, and an active supporter of the Lamar Fair.  She enjoyed sewing and quilting, and was generous in sharing her handiwork with family and friends.  She was an active member of Oakton United Methodist Church and Jasper VFW Auxiliary.   Doris and Russell had celebrated 65 years together before his death September 6, 2012.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Richard Morgan; a brother-in-law, Rod Onstott; and a great-grandson, Zeke Onstott.      Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ed & Brenda Onstott; two daughters and their husbands, Janis & John Bauer and Brenda & Mike Harvey, all of Lamar; a brother, Jim (Jackie) Morgan, Lamar; two sisters, Beulah Miller and Patsy (Bill) Andrews, Lamar; a sister-in-law, Linda Morgan, Lamar; eight grandchildren, Kristin (Grady) Huke, Rodney (Lacee) Onstott, T.J. (Jill) Onstott, Jennifer (Austin) Choate, Jeff Bauer, Johnna (Jose) Chairez, Brooke (Casey) Wiss, and Brant (Erin) Harvey; 10 great-grandchildren; and a large extended family.      Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2013 at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time.  Burial will be in Oakton Cemetery.      Memorial contributions are suggested to Oakton Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
