Don A. Compton, age 87, passed away Monday, April 6, 2015 at Truman Healthcare Center where he had been a resident for the past week.      Don was born July 27, 1927 in Springfield, Missouri, the oldest of the four sons of Vernon and Elsie (Fuhr) Compton.  After graduating from Central High School in Springfield in 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Sea Bee in Guam.  Returning home to Missouri, Don met and fell in love with Hallie Olee Miles who was working at the former Jones Drug Store on the Lamar Square.  They were married June 19, 1948, making their home and raising their four children in Barton County where Don farmed and worked for O’Sullivan Industries.  Don and Hallie had celebrated 57 years of marriage before she preceded him in death September 12, 2005.      Don was an accomplished pianist, a talented artist, natural craftsman, and a master at wood and rock carving, but the pastime that gave him the most pleasure was being a grandfather.  He was an active member of Lamar Church of Christ.      Survivors include two sons, Gary (Patty) Compton, Carthage and Randy (Donne) Compton, Rogers, Arkansas; two daughters, Carol Compton Branum, Lamar, Lori Stahl (fiancé Zach McCulley), Lamar; three brothers, Jack Compton, Carl (Margaret) Compton, and Gene Compton all of Lamar; eight grandchildren, Stacy (Trevor) Maguire, Kyle Compton, Julie (Dan) Whyman, Jason Branum, Jed Stahl, Jena Stahl, Mackson McCulley, and Hallie Compton, three step-grandchildren, Emily (Nick) Athan, Andrea Jackson and Kelly (Adam) King; four great-grandchildren, Lauren, Matthew, and Miles Whyman, and Jayden Maguire; and a large extended family.      Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 11th at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Friday.  Burial will be in Iantha Cemetery.      Memorial contributions are suggested to Lamar Church of Christ or Barton County Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
