David Deer

David Francis Deer, age 73, of Lamar, passed away Saturday evening, September 14, 2013 at Truman Healthcare Center.      David was born August 21, 1940 at Sacramento, California to Byron and Juanita Deer.  After graduating from high school, David served in the U.S. Army.  He then began a career as an over-the road truck driver, traveling the United States, experiencing different parts of the country and deciding to settle in southwest Missouri.  David had an interest in law enforcement and served as a Jasper County Deputy Sheriff for several years.  He also worked for many years at O'Sullivan Industries in Lamar.  Many will remember David for his willingness to help others through his talent and abilities as a "shade tree" mechanic.      Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Jacob and Kathryn Deer of Joplin, Missouri; a daughter and son-in-law, Erica and Paul Davis of Mission Viejo, California; seven grandchildren; and a large extended family.  David was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Carol Ann; and two sons, David Ernest Deer and Matthew Raymond Deer.      Honoring David's wishes, his body will be cremated and a private family service will be held at a later date.      Memorial contributions to pay tribute to David's battle with pancreatic cancer may be made to the American Cancer Society in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
