Daniel R. Schreiweis

Daniel R. Schreiweis, 84, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away peacefully on August 22, 2026, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.

Dan was born on October 22, 1941, in Duquesne, Missouri, to Fred and Vertrice Schreiweis. He graduated from Joplin Senior High School in 1960. He later married the love of his life, Mettie L. McMurray, on August 29, 1964. Together, they built a life centered around family, hard work, and helping others.

Dan was a hardworking man throughout his life. He was always willing to lend a hand and helped many people along the way. He worked as an electrician, including seven years doing remodel work for Walmart, before retiring. He was a long-time member of the Newport Baptist Church in Newport, MO.

Dan lived in Milo, Missouri, before making Lamar his home for the past 30 years. While he was proud of the work he did, his greatest accomplishment was the family he loved and cared for. He had a generous heart and was the kind of person people could count on when they needed a helping hand.

Dan is survived by his wife, Mettie, of the home; his daughters, Wanda Celgin of McKinney, Texas, and Pattie (David) Mezel of Lamar, Missouri; and his son, Leonard (Sara) Schreiweis of Joplin, Missouri.

He is also survived by three grandsons whom he raised as sons: Andrew Longobardi of the home, David (Eugenia) Longobardi of Nevada, Missouri, and Jared (Kyra) Schreiweis of Joplin, Missouri.

His other grandchildren include Clayton Celgin of McKinney, Texas; Carter Celgin (Colin Johnson) of Orlando, Florida; JT (Kayla) Mezel of Joplin, Missouri; and Jessica (Chase) Miller of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. He is also survived by four step-grandchildren, Craig Celgin, Michael, Tara, and Travis Smith; 20 great-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild, with another great-great-grandchild expected in the fall. He leaves behind a host of other relatives and friends who will miss him dearly.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Vertrice (Martin) Schreiweis; his daughters, Pamela Longobardi and Melody Schreiweis; his son-in-law, Craig Celgin; and his sister, Nancy Smith.

Dan's life was defined by hard work, generosity, and family. He gave freely of his time and talents to help others and leaves behind a family who will carry his memory and the lessons he taught them for generations to come. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
