Clarence "Bud" Abts

Clarence Wesley “Bud” Abts, age 86, of Liberal, Missouri, passed away Thursday, June 25, 2009 at Truman Healthcare Center in Lamar.        Bud was born March 29, 1923, in Brule, Nebraska, one of the ten children of Clyde and Dena (Fritzen) Abts.  He graduated from Big Springs Nebraska High School and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.  On June 28, 1948, at Gibbon Nebraska, he married Berneta M. Bayley and they lived in Big Springs, Nebraska until 1954 when they moved to Barton County.        Survivors include his wife of nearly 61 years, Berneta, of the home; two sons and their wives, Allen & Corkie Abts and Mark & Carol Abts, all of Liberal; a daughter and son-in-law, Bonnie & Bill  Workman, Liberal; a brother Earl M. Abts, Big Springs, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Shawn Abts, Liberal, Shannon Abts, Joplin, Melissa Williams, Webb City, Tangie Beard, Liberal, and Jessica Ellis, Jenks, Oklahoma; two step-grandsons, Tim Workman, Alba, and Mark Workman, Royce City,Texas; and 15 great-grandchildren.        Bud was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharon Beth Abts; a granddaughter, Schelli Abts; three brothers, John, Dean, & Hiarm Abts; and five sisters, Ella, Elise, Madeline, Vivion, and Margie.        Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 29, 2009 at Daniel Funeral Home..  There will be a private family burial in Barton City Cemetery.        Memorial contributions are suggested to the Schelli Abts Memorial Scholarship Fund or Liberal Methodist Church in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
