Charlene Turner

Charlene Lynn Turner, age 64, of Lamar, passed away at 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at St. John’s Medical Center in Joplin following a short illness.        Charlene was born December 11, 1944, at St. Francis, Kansas, to Emil and Dorma (Shaul) Schorzman.  She graduated from Lamar High School in 1962 and was married the following September 30th to Harold Quarles.  Harold died in a car accident May 30, 1969, the day their second son was born.  On August 12, 1972, at Independence, Missouri, Charlene married Leslie H. Turner and they owned and operated Lamar Hardware – Gamble’s Store for 17 years.  Charlene had also worked at the Blue Top Restaurant and O’Sullivan Industries for many years.  In recent years, she had been a loving child-care provider in her home until ill health forced her to retire.  She was an active member of the Lamar Eagles, enjoyed crocheting, fishing, and most of all, spending time with her grandchildren. Charlene had attended Oakton United Methodist Church and Lamar United Methodist Church.        Survivors include her husband, Les, of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Paul & Cindy Turner and Eric & Kellie Turner, all of Lamar; her mother, Dorma (Schorzman)  & Seth Bradley, Lamar; a sister, Donita & Larry Kidd, Chesterfield, Missouri; ten grandchildren, Chris Mitchell, Sam Mitchell, Michael Turner, BreAnna Ware, Ashley Turner, Kale Turner, Mykela Passley, Macy DeFratus, Kara Turner, and Seth Duncan; two great-grandchildren, Emersyn Ware and Damian Mitchell; and a large extended family.        Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, June 6th, at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday.  Burial will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery.        Memorial contributions are suggested to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
