Bob Selvey

Robert Ray "Bob" Selvey, age 84, of rural Liberal, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2013 at his home.      Bob was born October 23, 1928, in Lamar, Missouri, one of the 11 children of Roy and Essie (McManis) Selvey.  After graduating from Lamar High School in 1947, Bob and three of his brothers farmed together for six years.  He then enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving in the 43rd Armored Infantry Battalion during the Korean War.     On January 3, 1954, in Lamar, Bob married Betty J. Clements, and they farmed and raised their two daughters in Barton County.  They had shared 55 years together before Betty's passing on November 19, 2009.  He was also preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Martin, Gene, and Leland  Selvey; and a sister, Lorene Norwood.     In addition to being a devoted husband, father and grandfather, Bob was faithful to his Lord and an active member of Hannon Free Will Baptist Church.  Bob will be remembered by countless family members, friends and neighbors for the generous and joyous way he gave of himself for the benefit of others.      Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Brenda & Stan Bunch of Buffalo, Missouri, and Sandy & Allen Smith of Kansas City, Missouri; four brothers, Keith Selvey,  Don & Thelma Selvey, Carl & Beverly Selvey, all of Lamar, and Ron & Donna Selvey, Bolivar; two sisters, Helen Carr and Louise Caruthers, both of Lamar; five grandchildren, Jonathan & wife Amanda Bunch, Rachel & husband Kevin Pulliam, Alicia Bunch, Brandon & wife Mandy Smith, and Amanda Bunch; seven great-grandchildren, James Robert and Katie Jayne Smith, Shawn Allen, Maggie Josephine, and Sarah Lynn Smith; Audrey Elizabeth Bunch and Jonathan Jack Bradley Bunch; and a large extended family.      Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Hannon Free Will Baptist Church.  Burial will be in Lake Cemetery with full military honors.      The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Daniel Funeral Home.      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Missouri Free Will Baptist, earmarked for the Panama Seminary Fund, in care of the funeral home.
