Betty Jean Maberry

Betty Jean (McArthur) Maberry, age 94, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, January 6, 2024, in her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born on April 14, 1929, in Dade County, Missouri to Thomas Bertrand “Bert” & Gertrude (Farmer) McArthur.  She attended Lockwood High School until marrying Tom Maberry on October 28, 1944, while he was home on a 10-day furlough during World War II.

Betty and Tom made their home in Lamar, MO, after he returned from war.  Betty dedicated 44 years of service to Barton County State Bank, starting her career as a teller and then serving as an Officer for many years before retiring in 1994, while proudly raising her two sons, Alan, and Mark.  She was a faithful member of Lamar Methodist Church, actively participating in the United Methodist Women’s group, the Fidelis Sunday School class, and the Ester Circle. She generously devoted much of her retirement caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored.

Exhibiting her profound love for the Lord, Betty embraced a daily reliance on Jesus, seeking His guidance in every facet of her life. A devout believer and disciple, she openly shared her faith with family, friends, and even strangers.  Betty and her husband, Tom, found immense joy serving the Gideon organization, where Betty actively participated in the Gideon’s Women’s Auxiliary and offered prayers and shared their steadfast faith with others.

Betty adored her family and demonstrated her immense love by providing a heartfelt lunch for them every Sunday for over three decades.  She always appreciated a visit, no matter the time of day, and her guests, especially her grandchildren, were always treated to their own “Grandma-made favorite”. Betty made every holiday a special occasion because she delighted in being with her family.  Her legacy of faith, generosity, and sincere family adoration will be greatly missed and forever cherished.

Betty leaves behind two sons and their wives, Alan and Carol Maberry and Mark and Pam Maberry; six grandchildren, Shawn (Leslie), Nathan (Beckie), Melinda (Joe), Dustin (Melinda), Jordan (Elie), Miranda (Amanda); eleven great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren with two more on the way.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Herb McArthur, two sisters Marie Kirby and Vida Morrison, and her beloved husband Tom, who she was married to for 72 years.
