Beatrice
Olivia Mayes, age 78, of Lamar, passed away Wednesday,
September 10, 2008 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.
Beatrice was born July 10, 1930 in Iantha,
Missouri to Charles and Alice (Costellow)
Rives. A long-time Barton County
resident, Bea had worked at the Lamar Democrat and was custodian of the court
house for many years. She was a member of Grace
Place Baptist Church.
Bea married Arthur Taft and they later divorced.
On October 7, 1950, at Bentonville,
Arkansas, Beatrice married Eddie Mayes who
passed away July 19, 1975.
She was also preceded in death by her father, and a granddaughter, Heather
Mayes.
Survivors include her mother Alice Rives,
Iantha; five daughters, Iris and husband Larry “Butch” Walker, Harrisonville,
Missouri, Mary Jane Coon, Sheldon, Missouri, Linda Richards, Debbie and husband
Walt Nims, all of Golden City, Missouri and Carol and husband Jeff Ummel,
Reeds, Missouri; two sons, Douglas and Barry Mayes, both of Cameron, Missouri;
two brothers, James and wife Jo Rives, Moundville, Missouri and Ronnie &
Lorene Rives, Jasper, Missouri; and a sister Jean Foster, Lamar. She also leaves behind 18 grandchildren,
Brian, Eric and Brent Walker, Steve, Rick and Matt Counts, Lynly Nims, Zeke,
Levi and Job Mayes, Cassie Coon, Brady, Brett, Bryce and Brant Brummett, Callie
& Jessie Ummel, and Jenny Oliver; 13 great grandchildren; and a large
extended family, including those who cared for her so lovingly at Good Shepherd
Nursing Home
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, September 15th at
Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00
p.m. Burial will be in Iantha
Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to
the Barton County Library, Alzheimer’s Association or Good Shepherd Nursing
Home in care of Daniel Funeral Home.
