Audrey "Jackie" Younger

Audrey Alberta Younger, affectionately known as “A.J.” Jackie” or “Granny” passed away Tuesday, January 26, 2016 at Barton County Memorial Hospital.      Jackie was born September 12, 1924 in East Prairie, Missouri to John O’Flynn and Ollie Jackson. Her Irish ancestry, tenacity, work ethic and devout Christian faith were great assets as she grew up during the depression and throughout her life.  Jackie’s interest in nursing began with her service as a cadet nurse, stationed at Oakridge, Tennessee during World War II.   In addition to becoming a registered nurse and working as a private duty RN, Jackie earned a BS in nutrition from Andrews University in Michigan.  She completed her career as a food service administrator for many hospitals, retiring from Central Texas Medical Center in 1986.  Jackie was a Texas Chili Cook-Off champion and excellent cook who took great pleasure in mentoring others through her culinary skills.       In 1973, in Ohio, Jackie married Lynton Younger and they shared 23 years before his passing in 1996.  She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, John Jackson; a granddaughter-in-law, Kimberly Sue King; and a great-grandson, Gavin King.      Survivors include her grandson and caregiver, Stephen King of Lamar; a daughter, Peggie Celeste Oxendine, Austin, Texas; step-sons, Ken Younger, Houston, Texas and Lynton Younger, Jr. of Mississippi; sister, Lawanda Wagman, St. Louis, Missouri; three step-grandsons, Dr. Brett Younger, Marshal Younger, and Kevin Younger; and two great-granddaughters, Morgan King and Kaitlynn King of Lamar.      A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 2nd at Daniel Funeral Home with Pastor Robb Hodson officiating.  Burial will be in Olive Branch Cemetery at a later date.      Memorial contributions are suggested to Barton County Senior Center in care of the funeral home.
