Brenda Rose Harvey, age 59, of rural Lamar, passed away Saturday December 9, 2017 after a hard fought battle with gastric cancer, surrounded by her family at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin.

Brenda was born November 17, 1958 in Lamar, Missouri.  She was the youngest of three children born to Russell and Doris (Morgan) Onstott.  Brenda was a proud member of the Lamar High School Class of 1976 and always enjoyed getting together with many of her former classmates.

On June 30, 1978, Brenda was united in marriage to her sweetheart, Mike Harvey, and together made their home and raised their two children near Lamar.  Shortly after being wed, the two began Mike Harvey Construction where they would go on to build over 150 new homes and businesses in the Lamar area.  In the Spring of ‘93, Brenda obtained her real estate license and began working for Barton County Real Estate.  She later founded her own real estate office, Harvey & Co. Realty in 2010.  Brenda was a lifelong member of the Oakton United Methodist Church and was always ready and willing to volunteer wherever there was such a need.  Brenda’s greatest joy and most valued job was being Nana to her five grandkids.  She was honored to have babysat all of them and was always a proud grandmother attending their numerous sporting events, livestock shows, and school functions.

Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Mike, of the home; their daughter Brooke (Casey) Wiss and son Brant (Erin) Harvey; all of Lamar; her brother Ed (Brenda) Onstott, Lamar; her sister Janis (John) Bauer, Lamar; brother-in-law, Bill (Bobbi) Harvey, Liberal; grandchildren, Stetson, Zavrie, and Maddix Wiss and Knox and Briggs Harvey; nieces and nephews, Kristin (Grady) Huke, Rodney (Lacee) Onstott, T.J. Mike; I am so sorry to hear this. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed Brenda when I got to visit with her. If we were around closer we would have been good friends. Promise I wouldn’t have gotten her in to too much trouble. I hate I can’t be there as I am in Washington for a few weeks. You and your family will be in my prayers. I will make a point to stop in the next time I am in the area. Love to you and yours
